Gică Popescu announced few minutes ago that he won’t apply for the leading of FRF. „I announce you my protest by not participating at the elections from January 25”, said the former captain of Barcelona.
"I don’t apply for the leading of FRF, as a protest towards the change of the elections date. This way I express my protest to the decision of the Executive Committee of organizing the elections on January 25. Five years ago the elections were organized 6 months later, now they have been advanced with 4 months, I cannot understand anything of what is happening.
In order to win these elections I would need time to present my program. It is abnormal that the elections to be organized two weeks after the winter holidays. It is a disdain towards the people who come on the stadium and love football.
I prefer an acceptable renouncement, than inacceptable compromises. If I had run for the elections, my colleagues from the Golden Generation would have been next to me. I don’t have whom to support of those who applied.
The National Stadium is a public investment made by the Government with the Capital City hall, Mircea Sandu has no glory.
I announce the President of LPF, Dumitru Dragomir, that I am a smart guy whether I candidate or not. He should have called me personally to say: "Gică, please, don’t apply for because you are disturbing our plans!.
Mr. Dragomir told me that I should stay at least 3 years next to the present President of FRF to learn. I want to ask Dragomir: What shall I learn? To give the most aberrant decision: that a contract can be unilaterally modified?.
I will return when the leader of FRF will be elected on projects, and not on meetings at night. The difference between me and the leading of FRF is that I invest a lot of money in football and those who are leading now FRF turn to profit some advantages.
Mircea Sandu said that in the next 5 years the Romanian football will be in crisis. I am sure that this way is going to be!", said Gică Popescu lat the press conference.
