Steaua played a good game on Anfield, but lost because of a Liga 2 defender and a mistake made by the referee.
Tănase scored the first Romanian goal ever on Anfield Road and narrowly missed the second goal that would have made it 2-2.

Joe Cole, Maxi Rodriguez and Babel couldn't beat him. Liverpool started very confident the second half. Ilie started to feel that his players were starting to lose ground and made a radical change. He substituted Anghelov and brought in Bonfim as a right defender. Nicolita regained his position on the right side of the midfield, while Radut took Anghelov's place next to Bicfalvi.
Steaua was immediatly executed. The referee saw a foul on a contact between Kapetanos and Kyrgiagos and gave a penalty. Ngog didn't miss and Liverpool was in the lead. Tănase missed an incredible chance. He passed Kyrgiakos and was one on one with the goalkeeper, but couldn't manage to keep his concentration and shot wide.
