The officials from Rapid are pessimist regarding the case Săpunaru. The defender does not know yet whether he has the permit to play in Romania, after he was suspended by the Portuguese League, for an incident that took place at the end of the match disputed by FC Porto with Benfica.
"Unfortunately, there are little chances for Săpunaru to receive the playing permit in League 1. If we don’t manage to solve this problem until Monday, then we will rescind the contract, we won’t pay the salaries for nothing", announced the president Ion Taban. The sporting manager from Rapid, Renzo Rossi, and the agent of the player, Victor Becali, suggest a plot from LPF: "It is very strange how the League accepted the player to be a member of the club, it considered that the papers are ok, and after a few hours they announced that Săpunaru does not have the permit to play". The right defender had been suspended for 6 months by the Portuguese league.
