Romania suffered a defeat at Şükrü Saracoglu, like in the time of the sultans, against the "army" of referees hand in hand with Emre and company on the winning side.

The Turks and the Romanians faced each other last night in another epic battle. This time on the football pitch at national level the two teams met for the 23rd time.

Romania had the advantage with 12 wins before yesterday. In the stands, the Ottomans were in superior numbers to our own fans, just like in Ştefan cel Mare's time. On the pitch, the things stood different only until the last minutes of the game, when we again fell under the domination of The High Gates.

The Romanian players were well organized in the defense and persistent in the attack thanks to Bilaşco  who won many balls and to Daniel Niculae deviations. Only 15 minutes in to the match Bilaşco header was saved from the goal line by a Turkish defender.

The near miss woke up Hiddink's boys, who have declared war to Romania and almost scored the opening goal of the match. Mevlut, who missed a lot of chances  in the first half, deflected the ball just past Lobonţ's post (22). The hosts only striker also missed a shot from 12 meters, sending the ball over from a good position (36). The greater possesion of the Romanians prevented the Turkish side to approach Lobonţ's goal.

After the break, both teams seemed determined to change the score sheet. The number of opportunities  increased in the second half to the satisfaction of the fans. First, the attack was reinforced by Marica's entry, Daniel Niculae had the opportunity to score (53), but the ball went agonizingly close. On the other goal, the Turks saw the ball in the net but Arda's shot from 25 meters hit the cross-bar (57)!

Then the game was going to a 0-0 and both teams seemed satisfied. The only one who resisted was referee Mazici, who mistakenly awarded a penalty to Turkey, converted by Emre (83). Confused by the false decision made by the referee, the Romanians gave in and Arda Turan made it 2-0 with a shot from 22 metres. This is how the last test before the preliminaries for Euro 2012 ended. A defeat forced by a referee and with unmeasured worries before the matches against Albania and Belarus!

The referee invented the penalty kick!
In the 81 minute, the referee Milorad Mazici awarded a hilarious penalty for the representative of Turkey. The Serbian gave a penalty kick after a duel in our penalty area between Gokhan Gonul and Cociş, although the Turkish player was the one who shot in the leg of our midfielder. The Romanians rushed to the referee and to the linesman  Raidocici, but they refused to change their decision. Our players asked to Gonul to confess to referee that it wasn't foul, but the Turkish defender didn't cooperate.

"Too bad for our boys work! A big referee mistake stopped us from obtaining a draw. We didn't deserve to lose, we had very good opportunities and we played verry well"
Răzvan Lucescu, Romania's coach

Four survivors from the previous game
Only four Romanian players from the previous game between Romania and Turkey were in the squad. The match was played in August 2007, in Bucharest, and Romania won 2-0. The four survivors are Lobonţ, Chivu, Raţ and Rădoi. Two other players, Marica and Nicoliţă, were reserves last night.

We returned to the red shirts
The national team played again in red shirts last night. In the last two training matches played in Austria Lucescu's players wore yellow. The last game in which our players played in red shirts was in the 2-3 defeat against Ukraine.

Bilaşco hit Servet
In the end of the first half, our striker struck the central defender Servet in the face with his elbow. Bilaşco received a yellow card and barely escaped from being beaten by the nervous stopper. The entire Turkish technical staff requested the removal of Bilaşco. Servet received medical care for his cheek cut.
