Moneyball este un film bazat pe o poveste adevărată, despre baseball, despre succes în sport şi despre modul în care managerul Billy Beane a aplicat un sistem care să ajute performanţa. Acest sistem compilează toate statisticile referitoare la jucătorii din MLB, alcătuind o echipă funcţională cu sportivi ieftin de achizionat, dar dotaţi cu calităţi absolut necesare jocului. Moneyball mai este nominalizat şi la categoriile cel mai bun film, cel mai bun scenariu adaptat, cel mai bun montaj şi cel mai bun mixaj de sunet. Decernarea statuetelor Oscar va avea lor pe 26 februarie.
Brad Pitt a fost nominalizat la premiul Oscar pentru cel mai cel mai bun actor în rol principal, pentru personajul Billy Beane, din filmul Moneyball.
