Ilie Dumitrescu was Steaua's coach in the first match against Liverpool in September. He knows that the three strikers could be the key to winning the match tomorrow.
On the 16th of September, Steaua started the journey in the Europa League group stage against Liverpool. Ilie Dumitrescu was Steaua's coach and the match against the English side was one of his last in his 6 weeks on the bench. The ex-number 8 accepted to talk about the Romanian sides chance to win against Liverpool and to talk about the changes in the two teams in the last two and a half months.
- Mister Ilie Dumitrescu, how is this match different from the one just 11 weeks back?
- I believe that both teams are stronger. Even though Liverpool lost in the last Premier League match, they had a good run until now. They also won 3-1 against Napoli in the Europa League and still remain undefeated. Steaua is in shape and the match with CFR was very good even though it was a draw.
"Steaua is solid in the middle"
- Did the pressure on Anfield Road had something to do with Steaua not getting a better result in the first match?
- I tried to explain to my players that they have to play the best they can no mather the stadium. You have to play what you know and not to defend just because of the pressure. We played very well for about 45-50 minutes. Let's not forget we went through a tough situation, Liverpool taking the lead just after 27 seconds of play.
- How has Steaua's game growed?
- I believe that the team is stronger now because it has a solid midfield with players like Ricardo and Bicfalvi.
- But won't Steaua lose because Bilasco and Kapetanos can't play?
- Did you see a strong player in Barcelona's team? You need players that know each other and that can get that last past to the striker.
"Harder on Anfield"
- How can Steaua win?
- Yes, with the help of Tănase, Stancu and Surdu. I saw Tănase played fantastic against CFR Cluj, Stancu remains the same lethal striker and Surdu is one of those players that can surprise you at any time.
- Will the fans play an important part?
- I believe that this game will be even harder than the one on Anfield!
- Why?
- Because Steaua needs to win. Well, must not lose, because even a point is good. I hope that the stadium will be full. It will be sad if Steaua plays against Liverpool and the fans don't come to the stadium.
